Terriers Top Yeowomen in Home Finale

Game One Box l Game Two Box

April 24 – The home finale for the Oberlin College softball team was spoiled by the visiting Hiram Terriers as they topped the Yeowomen 13-1 and 12-0 on Thursday afternoon.

In game one, Oberlin had six of its nine players record a base hit, but couldn’t string them together to create a big inning. The Yeowomen finally broke through with a run in the fifth as Michelle Zanni plated Kate Phillips with a single to left center.

OC was within striking distance for the majority of the game, trailing by just four going into the fifth, but Hiram put things out of reach with a nine-run seventh.

Joining Zanni with hits in the game, were Sophie Schact, Julia Chauvin, (Nella) Williams, Jennifer Sees and Scarlet Woodrick.

Unfortunately in game two, the Oberlin offense was quieted by the pitching of south paw Sarah Padilla as she allowed just one hit. The Hiram offense also scored in each of the first three innings and never looked back.

Oberlin will close out its conference season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Denison.
