April 4, 2007 -- The Oberlin softball team lost a pair of non-conference games today at Mary Culhane Field to non-conference opponent Myers University. After the defeats, Oberlin's record stands at 1-13. Myers improved to 3-11 with the wins.
In the opener, sophomore pitcher Sophie Simon-Ortiz threw a great game from the mound, going seven innings while giving up just one earned run. She also had five strikeouts in the 1-2 loss. Junior Spencer McCaffrey led the Yeowomen's offense by going 2-3 with a pair of stolen bases.
The Yeowomen lost the second game 9-16 despite a solid game from Julia Chauvin. She went 2-4 with a home run, three runs scored, and four RBI's in the contest. Nora Granahan and Leah Pine also both picked up two hits for Oberlin.
Oberlin will play next on April 7 for a home North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan University. The twinbill against the Bishops is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
