Complete Results

February 24 – One day after stumbling against Case Western Reserve, the Oberlin College men’s tennis team bounced back in resounding fashion by defeating NCAC foe Wittenberg 8-1 on Sunday afternoon.

“I was glad to see my players respond the way they did today,” head coach Adam Shoemaker said. “We were unfocused yesterday, but they guys came to play today and this was a big way to bounce back.”

Oberlin (2-1, 1-0 NCAC) was challenged in the No. 1 doubles match, but Chris Pray and Colin Burling eventually outlasted Brad Seymour and Robert Fisher for an 8-6 victory.

Ezra Goldman and Ben Godlove had no trouble in the second doubles dual as they handed Andrew Young and Craig Lods an 8-1 loss. Oberlin’s No. 3 tandem of David Midler and Leo Sprinzen followed suite with an 8-0 thumping of Andy Lamb and Daniel McNeeely.

In No. 1 singles action, Pray took the first set 6-1 against Seymour but was forced to go to the tie break in the second set as he held on for a 7-6 (3-1) winner.

It only took to the No. 2 singles match to determine a winner as Midler brought home the clincher with a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Young.

After dropping the first set 3-6, Ezra Goldman responded by reversing the score from set one as he went on to win sets two and three by the count of 6-3 and 10-6 over Fisher.

Godlove also handled Lods 6-2, 6-2, and Sprinzen made short work of McNeely 6-0, 6-1.

Oberlin will hit the road for the first time this spring when it travels to Mount Union College on Thursday, Feb. 28, for a 6:30 p.m. match.
