March 1 – The Oberlin College men’s tennis team improved to 2-0 in NCAC action as they defeated Ohio Wesleyan 7-2 on Saturday evening.
“It was good to get our second conference win,” head coach Adam Shoemaker said. “This will hopefully focus us for a good week of practice as we have two tough matches coming up next Saturday.”
Oberlin (3-2, 2-0 NCAC) took all three doubles matches as the No. 1 pairing of Chris Pray and Colin Burling handled Adrian Barker and Brandon Luttinger by an 8-5 count. Senior Ezra Goldman and sophomore Ben Godlove topped Daniel Thangarajah and Taimour Khan 8-6, and David Midler and Leo Sprinzen completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory over Jeff Herin and Garrett Paknis.
In No. 1 singles action, Pray made short work of Barker – allowing just one point in a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
With three doubles victories and Pray already a winner, Oberlin had a chance to seal the match in No. 2 singles – and Midler did just that by clinching the win in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) – improving his winning streak to four matches.
Thomas Page followed suite against Thangarajah as he claimed a 6-2, 6-1 decision in No. 3 singles play.
OC dropped matches four and five, but Sprinzen completed the successful evening by winning 6-1, 6-0 against Herin.
The Yeomen will have a doubleheader next Saturday, March 8, when they dual Hope College at 8 a.m., before battling John Carroll University at 4 p.m.
