April 14 – Leo Sprinzen was victorious in both singles and doubles play, but it wasn’t enough as the Oberlin College men’s tennis team was defeated by the Denison University Big Red, 6-3, on Monday evening.
In No. 3 doubles play Sprinzen partnered with David Midler to take out Tom Hodgkiss-Lilly and Nate Hobrath by an 8-6 count. The win moves the pair up to 9-5 on the year and 7-1 in the No. 3 position.
Sprinzen also garnered a win in No. 6 singles as he outlasted Evan Verbofsky 2-6, 6-4, 5-4 before Verbofsky retired from the match. Senior Chris Pray also bested Jordan Buehler 6-2, 0-1 before he elected to retire from the match as well.
Denison, which ranks ninth in the Central Region, won at No. 1 and 2 doubles and spots two through five in singles play.
Oberlin will look to bounce back on Saturday, April 19, when it travels out west to lock horns with Earlham College.
