March 25 – For the second-straight day, the Oberlin College men’s tennis team battled a ranked opponent – falling to the Colby College Mules 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.
“Colby is a very good team that is ranked eighth in the Northeast Region,” head coach Adam Shoemaker said. “However, I thought our guys played well today and we finished the match very strong. Hopefully we will take that momentum into Friday’s match against Sioux Falls.”
Tom Page and Ben Godlove outlasted Dylan Jaffee and Nick Rosen-Wachs 8-6 in the No. 3 doubles dual to give OC (5-5) its first victory of the day.
However, the Yeomen could not carry that momentum to the singles courts as they went winless until the No. 6 position – where Colin Burling earned his second individual win of the season, taking both sets against Scott Zeller by a count of 6-4.
Oberlin will have the next few days off from competition to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of Hilton Head. The Yeomen will return to the court on Friday at 8 a.m., against Sioux Falls, before embarking on the long drive back up to Oberlin.
