February 23 – The Oberlin College men’s tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback to Case Western Reserve on Saturday afternoon at the John W. Heisman Field House.
After sweeping the round of doubles of last week against Malone, the Yeomen dropped two of three doubles matches today against the Spartans. Oberlin’s No. 3 pairing of Leo Sprinzen and Ben Godlove managed to prevent the sweep by defeating Kenneth Nguyen and Adam Erickson 8-5.
“We just didn’t play well today,” head coach Adam Shoemaker said. “We weren’t focused as a team, but now we have to regroup and get ready for tomorrow.
Oberlin’s lone singles win came in the No. 2 position as David Midler defeated Allen Ye 6-3, 6-2.
Making his spring season debut, Ezra Goldman won his first set 6-4 against Michael Peterson, but could not hold him off – dropping the next two sets 4-6, 3-6. Godlove also won his opening set 6-3 against Erickson in the No. 5 position – before succumbing 5-7 and 6-10 in the final two sets.
Oberlin will have a quick turnaround as Wittenberg comes to town on Sunday afternoon at noon in the first NCAC match for OC. |
