Yeomen Suffer First Conference Loss at the Hands of Allegheny

April 6 – The Oberlin College men’s tennis team was dealt their first North Coast Athletic Conference loss of the season as they fell to the Allegheny College Gators, 6-3, in a road match on Sunday afternoon.

After dropping the first two doubles matches, the Oberlin tandem of Leo Sprinzen and Ben Godlove were able to prevent the sweep with an 8-6 decision over Evan Gordon and Ben Hurtuk to improve to 2-0 on the year as a doubles pair in the No. 3 position.

Senior Chris Pray lifted his season record to 10-6 as he bested Matt Chiricosta 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in a hard-fought match in the No. 1 position.

In matches two and three, David Midler and Tom Page where just points away from escaping with a win, but it was not be as Midler was on the wrong end of a 7-4, 6-4 dual against Matt Winters. Page was even closer to a win, after dropping the first set he fought back to win 6-4 in set two, before finally succumbing 15-13 in a super tiebreak for the ages.

The Yeomen (7-6, 3-1 NCAC) did earn another victory in the fifth slot as Godlove topped Zack Kerosky 7-5, 6-2.

Oberlin will be back in action on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 as its will be participating in the GLCA Tournament hosted by Wooster. However, matches will be taking place on the campuses of Denison and Kenyon.
