April 11 – Oberlin got strong performances in singles play as it knocked off the Albion Britons, 5-3, in the opening round of the Great Lakes College Association (GLCA) Tournament.
In the No. 1 singles dual, senior Chris Pray had no trouble with Andrew Lulek – winning in straight sets by a count of 6-0, 6-4.
Playing No. 2 position, David Midler followed suite with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Brandon Still.
In one of the most pivotal meetings in the match, Tom Page was able to outlast Brent Parshall for the victory. After dropping the first set 6-3, Page was on the brink of losing the match on multiple occasions, but a found way to claim a 7-6 (7-5) triumph in set number two. He then used that momentum to earn a 6-3 win in the third and final set to give Oberlin a critical point.
Ben Godlove also dropped the first set 6-4 against Adam Brown, but regrouped to win the next two sets by a score of 6-2 and 6-3 in the No. 5 battle.
Albion, which ranks 14th in the Central Region, won the first pair of doubles matches, but Page and Godlove prevented the sweep in the third doubles dual with an 8-2 defeat of Brown and Chris Atallah.
The No. 3 singles match between Ezra Goldman and Ben Miller went unfinished.
