February 17, 2007 -- The Oberlin men's tennis team opened up its 2007 season this afternoon by hosting Malone College at the Heisman Field House. The Yeomen (0-1) received three wins in singles and a doubles victory, but were edged by the Pioneers (1-0) in non-conference action, 4-5.
Junior Chris Pray got his year in first singles off to a great start by defeating Malone's Jason Christman, 6-3, 6-3. At number two singles, sophomore David Midler downed Kyle Bowers, 6-2, 6-3, while junior Colin Burling also earned a win at fifth singles (6-1, 7-6).
In doubles competition, Malone won two out of the three matches. The Yeomen team of Pray and Burling handedly defeated Kyle Bowers and Tim Springirth at first doubles, 8-4.
Oberlin will host Heidelberg on Thursday, February 22, for its next match (6:30 p.m.).
