Led by a pair of doubles victories and four singles
wins, the Oberlin men's tennis team dominated Heidelberg
this evening, 6-3, at the Heisman Field House. The win
marks the Yeomen's first of the 2007 season, as their
record now stands at 1-1. The Student Princes fell to
0-1 after their season opener.
Three Yeomen earned wins in both singles
and doubles action tonight. Junior sensation Chris Pray
routed the 'Berg's Paul Evans in first singles, 6-0,
6-2, and also teamed up classmate Colin Burling to blank
Evans and Moody Al-Turk in first doubles, 8-0. Burling
defeated Evan Fanning in number five singles, 4-6, 7-5
(10-6 super set).
Also claming a pair of wins was Ezra Goldman.
The junior downed Al-Turk in fourth singles, 6-1, 6-1,
and joined forces with senior Arthur Zeyda to defeat
Max Norris and Fanning in second doubles, 8-3. Sophomore
David Midler boasted Oberlin's other win, as he bested
Norris, 7-5, 6-3, in number two singles.
After tonight's win three Yeomen, Pray,
Burling, and Midler, still have undefeated 2-0 records.
Pray and Burling are 2-0 at first doubles. Head Coach
Adam Shoemaker's squad will travel to Otterbein on February
24 for their next match. The non-conference contest
against the Cardinals is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
