March 16, 2007 -- The
Oberlin College men's tennis team lost this evening
to Baldwin-Wallace College in a tight non-conference
battle at the Heisman Field House, 4-5. The defeat
ends the Yeomen's six-game winning streak, but their
record still stands at a solid 6-2 overall. The Yellow
Jackets remained unbeaten at 12-0.
All of Oberlin's four points came from
singles competition, as Head Coach Adam Shoemaker's
squad swept second through fifth singles. Leading
the way was sophomore David Midler, who improved to
8-0 at number two singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over
Baldwin-Wallace's Ryan McCartney. Senior Arthur Zeyda
was victorious in third singles to improve to 6-2 on
the year, while juniors Colin Burling and Tom Page
earned wins in fourth and fifth singles, respectively.
Despite dominating singles play, the
Yeomen were edged in all three doubles matches, 5-8,
6-8, and 4-8. Burling and junior Chris Pray received
just their second loss of the year in number one doubles
action.
Oberlin will be off from competition
for 10 days until it voyages to Hilton Head, S.C. for
