Two Yeomen Named to All-NCAC Team

May 9 -- The North Coast Athletic Conference selected sophomore Chris Pray and Jim Rosenheim to the 2006 All-Conference team.

Pray, who earned a spot on the second team in 2005, moved up to first team honors. He posted a 13-8 record at number one singles this season. Rosenheim finished the season with a 13-8 record. He was chosen for the honorable mention team.

Yeomen Place Fifth at NCAC Championships

April 30, 2006 -- After two days of competition, the Oberlin College men’s tennis team finished in fifth place at the NCAC Championships. The team defeated Wabash College and Wittenberg University to end their season this afternoon.

In game one of singles competition, number two Jim Rosenheim defeated Adrian Starnes (6-4, 6-3). Number three David Cotter got the win over Paul Prosinski (6-1, 6-3). At the number four spot, David Midler knocked off Sean Clerget (6-1, 6-0), while Arthur Zeyda beat Nathan Mullendore (6-4, 6-2) at the number five spot. The Little Giants swept the doubles competition to earn their second point.

The Yeomen won five out of six in singles play in game two with victories from Chris Pray, Rosenheim, Midler, Zeyda and Ezra Goldman. Oberlin swept the doubles round against the Tigers.

The team finished the regular season 12-8 overall and 4-3 in the NCAC.

Men's Tennis Falls to Wooster on Day One of NCAC Championships

April 29, 2006 -- The Oberlin College men’s tennis team was defeated in round one of tournament play by the College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon. The Yeomen lost 4-2 to the Fighting Scots.

In singles competition, Chris Pray defeated Will Morrison 7-6, 6-4 in the number one spot. At number two, Jim Rosenheim edged out Brian Ebbitts, 4-6, 7-6, 6-0. The two teamed up for a win at number one doubles as well.

The team will take on the number eight seed, Wabash College, tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.

Men's Tennis Edges Out Earlham

April 22, 2006 --The Oberlin College men’s tennis team traveled to Granville, Ohio and beat Earlham College 4-3 on the campus of Denison University on Saturday afternoon.

In singles competition, Chris Pray, Ezra Goldman and Bryce Fotiu-Wojtowicz picked up victories for the Yeomen. Pray and Goldman paired up to win in the number two doubles spot and Arthur Zeyda and Fotiu-Wojtowicz got the win in number three doubles. 

“It was a tough match,” Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "All we have left is the conference tournament, and we’re looking forward to playing some of the teams that beat us earlier in the season.”

The NCAC tournament begins on Saturday, April 29th and will be held at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.

Yeomen Shut Out by Denison

April 18, 2006 -- The Oberlin College men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Denison University in conference play on Tuesday evening.

"Denison is a very good team that doesn't let you get away with any mistakes," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "We got beat by a very good team tonight."

The loss drops the Yeomen to 11-8 overall and 3-3 in the NCAC. The team plays its final conference match on Saturday against Earlham College. The match will be held at Denison University and is set for 11:00 a.m.

Men's Tennis Falls to Allegheny

April 15, 2006 --The Yeomen were defeated 4-3 by Allegheny College in conference play on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Pray won in the number one singles spot, while Jim Rosenheim got the victory at the number two slot. The two combined for a win at number one doubles, and the team of Colin Burling and David Cotter won at number two doubles.

"This was a tough match to lose," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "They're a good team, and I hope we get a chance to see Allegheny again before the season's over."

The Yeomen are now 11-6 overall and 3-1 in conference. The team will travel to Granville, Ohio to take on Denison University on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Yeomen Shut Out by Kenyon

April 13, 2006 --The Oberlin College men’s tennis team played their final home match against Kenyon College this afternoon. The Yeomen fell 7-0 to the Lords.

"We started out really tough, but Kenyon's a really tough team to beat," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "We have to keep playing hard with the tournament right around the corner."

The Yeomen are currently second in the NCAC with a conference record of 3-0. They are one game behind Denison University. The team travels to Meadsville, Pennsylvania on Saturday. The first game is set for 11:00 a.m.

Men's Tennis Falls to Wooster

April 4, 2006 -- The Oberlin College men's tennis team dropped a conference match, 6-1, to the College of Wooster this evening.

David Midler put up a win at the number four singles spot. He won in two sets, 6-2, 6-2. Chris Pray and David Rosenheim also won at number one doubles.

The Yeomen will play in the GLCA's this weekend. The event is slated for a full day of competition at Kenyon College.

Yeomen Lose First Match of the Season

March 30, 2006 -- The Oberlin College men's tennis team fell 7-0 to regionally ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The loss breaks a streak of ten matches won by the Yeomen.

"We played pretty well today considering we were up against some really good competition," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "This is a good match to get us ready to resume conference play on Tuesday."

Oberlin stands at 10-1 on the season and 2-0 in the conference. The Yeomen will be back in action on April 4 at the College of Wooster. The match is set for 4:30 p.m.

Men's Tennis Dominates Against Hartwick

March 29, 2006 -- The Oberlin College men's tennis team continued their winning ways with a 7-0 victory over the Hartwick Hawks.

The Yeomen swept both singles and doubles matches.

"They all played really well," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "It was a good match to get us ready for tomorrow's test against a top-ranked team."

Oberlin is now 10-0 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC. The team takes the court against UW-Whitewater at noon tomorrow.

Yeomen Smash Sioux Falls

March 28, 2006 -- The Oberlin College men's tennis team started out their spring break trip with a 8-1 victory over Sioux Falls.

David Cotter, Jim Rosenheim, Arthur Zeyda and Ezra Goldman all won in straight sets in singles competition. David Midler won in a super breaker in three sets at the number four singles spot.

"We made a good adjustment for our first outdoor match of the season," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "We started out a little shaky, but recovered really well. This is a great way to prepare for the conference coming up in April."

The Yeomen continue their spring break competition tomorrow. The team takes on Hartwick College at 12:00 p.m.

Yeomen Finish Second at Kerry Sewart Invitational

March 19, 2006 -- The Oberlin College men's tennis team wrapped up day two in Crawfordsville, Indiana in dramatic fashion, coming away with a second place finish as the result of a tiebreaker.

David Midler and Arthur Zeyda capped off a solid weekend, finishing first in doubles play. Zeyda also took top honors in the fourth singles spot, while Midler ended the tournament in second at the third spot.

"We had a look at the title because of the great play of the entire team," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "We only lost one match in today's run of play, and had outstanding play from Midler and Zeyda again, but this was really a team effort."

The Yeomen head to Hilton Head, South Carolina for their spring break trip. The team will return to conference play on April 4, when they face The College of Wooster.

Day One Wraps Up at Kerry Sewart Invitational

March 18, 2006 -- The Yeomen tennis team opened tournament play at Wabash College today, hoping to defend their 2005 title.

David Midler and Arthur Zeyda earned an automatic spot in tomorrows singles final by winning both matches. The two also advanced in doubles play by winning two matches coming out of the third spot. After splitting a pair of matches, four singles players and two doubles teams will compete in the back draw final.

"We had some really good play today," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "It was a huge adjustment for us to play outside for the first time this season, but we put up a good effort and hope to continue that tomorrow."

Oberlin will wrap up the tournament tomorrow in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Panthers No Match for Yeomen

March 11, 2006-- The Oberlin College men's tennis team defeated Ohio Dominican University 5-2 on Saturday afternoon, moving their record to 8-0 on the season.

The Yeomen swept the doubles competition, and put up four singles victories.

Oberlin is now 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC. The squad will travel to Wabash for the Kerry Sewart Invitational next weekend.

Men's Tennis Rolls Past Bishops

March 4, 2006-- The Yeomen continued their winning ways with a 5-2 victory over conference rival Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon.

"This was a good conference win for us today," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "It was a tough match, but we're still undefeated in conference play, so we'll take it."

Oberlin is now 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC. The squad will host Ohio Dominican College on Saturday, March 11. They will begin at 3:00 p.m.

Streak Continues for Men's Tennis

March 2, 2006-- The Yeomen moved to 6-0 on the season as they swept Mount Union College on Thursday evening.

Chris Pray continues his excellent play defeating Mount Union's Kyle Moreland (6-3, 6-3). Third singles player Jimmy Rosenheim also highlighted the Yeomen's performance defeating Brian Belconis in straight sets
(6-2, 6-2).

"Tonight's match was just a tremendous effort from the entire team," Assistant Head Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "It was a great to end the night with a sweep."

Oberlin hopes to continue the winning ways when they travel to Delaware on Saturday to take on Ohio Wesleyan University. The match is slated for 1:00 p.m.

Men Remain Undefeated

February 26, 2006-- The Yeomen tennis squad took four of six singles matches to defeat North Coast Athletic Conference rival Wittenberg University 4-3 on Sunday morning.

Oberlin scored big wins from Chris Pray at number one singles (6-2, 6-1), David Cotter at number two singles (7-5, 6-7, 6-4), and Jim Rosenheim at number three singles (1-6, 6-4, 6-1).

The Yeomen improve to 5-0 on the season. The squad travels to Mount Union College on Thursday, March 2. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Oberlin Shuts Out Otterbein

February 25, 2006 -- The Oberlin College men's tennis team defeated Otterbein College 7-0 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon. The win extended the Yeomen's winning streak to four games.

Oberlin's number one singles player Chris Pray defeated Tyler Stephens of Otterbein in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) leading the Yeomen to victory. Number four singles player Jimmy Rosenheim made quick work of his counterpart, winning in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).

Doubles partners Chris Pray and David Midler defeated Otterbein's pair Jeremy Smith and Adam Winter, winning 8-0.

" It was a good win to prepare for our conference match tomorrow against
Wittenberg ," assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "Chris Pray and David Midler played well in doubles and Jimmy Rosenheim had an excellent 6-0 6-0 win in singles."

The win moves the Yeomen to a perfect 4-0 mark to begin the season. Oberlin will travel to Springfield , Ohio to face off against Wittenberg University in an NCAC matchup.

Yeomen Tennis Defeats Heidelberg

February 23, 2006 --- Oberlin College men's tennis moved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-1 victory over Heidelberg College Thursday evening.

Oberlin swept the doubles matches 3-0, highlighted by an 8-3 win by partners Chris Pray and David Midler.

Number one singles player Chris Pray lead the way for the Yeomen defeating Heidelberg's Paul Evans (6-3, 6-0). Number five singles player Arthur Zeyda also played well, defeating Phil Myers in straight sets (6-3, 6-1).

The Yeomen will take their three-game winning streak to Otterbein College Saturday, February 25 beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Yeomen Win Against Wabash

February 18, 2006 --- The Yeomen tennis squad took five of six singles matches to defeat Wabash College 5-2 in men's tennis on Saturday morning.

Oberlin scored big wins from David Midler at number two singles (6-0, 6-2), David Cotter at number three singles (6-0, 6-2), and Jim Rosenheim at number four singles (6-2, 6-1).

"This was just a great, tough match," Head Coach Don Hunsinger said. "Both teams fought hard. This is a good win for us against a quality team."

The Yeomen improve to 2-0 on the season. The squad hosts Heidelberg College on Thursday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Men's Tennis Starts Season Strong

February 17, 2006 --- Oberlin College won four of six singles matches on Friday evening to cap their first victory of the season over Malone College in men's tennis.

Malone put the Yeomen back 2-1 after the doubles matches, but Oberlin stormed back in the singles competitions. Senior David Cotter put together an outstanding effort at the number-three singles slot, easily defeating Brian Paul 6-1, 6-1. Chris Pray, Jim Rosenheim and Art Zeyda all put up top finishes for the match.

"We had a rocky start at the beginning of the match, but we settled down once we got into singles play," Assistant Coach Adam Shoemaker said. "It's a great start now that we got some of the nerves out of the way, and we're ready to start conference play in the morning."

Oberlin starts the season out at 1-0 and will begin NCAC action tomorrow as they host Wabash College. The match is set for 9:00 a.m.
