-- Head Coach Blake New's men's soccer team continued its impressive start to the 2007 season by blanking Mount Union this afternoon, 2-0. The Yeomen improved to 2-0-1 and have played all three of their games at the newly constructed Fred Shults Field. Mount Union was handed its first loss of the season.
Junior forward Luke Hoffman continued to light up the scoreboard this year as he scored his third goal of the season off an assist from Dan Jaffe 15 minutes into the second half. First-year Evan Atwell scored the Yeomen's first goal of the game 30 minutes into the opening period courtesy off a feed from junior Zach Lewis.
First-year goalkeeper Zach Lipshultz earned his first collegiate shutout by tallying three saves in 90 minutes of play. Mount Union's Matt Mazzolini racked up seven saves in the loss.
Oberlin returns to action on September 8 when it voyages to Meadville, Pa., to face Washington and Jefferson College in the Allegheny College tournament (12:30 p.m.).
