Yeomen and Storm Battle to 1-1 Tie

September 2, 2007 -- Oberlin and Lake Erie fought to a 1-1 double-overtime tie this afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Fred Shults Field. Both the Yeomen's and Storm's record now stands at 1-0-1 after today's 110-minute battle in Oberlin.

Oberlin scored first thanks to a Luke Hoffman goal (Mike Mullaley assist) with 26:04 remaining in the first half. Lake Erie's Joe Starvaggi tied the game off an assist by Scott Stuckey with 17:26 left in the opening period. Oberlin out-shot Lake Erie 18-17 and had one shot on goal in the first overtime that was saved by the Storm's keeper, Mike Leparo.

The Yeomen's Zach Lipshultz tallied eight saves on the day. Oberlin also had a big advantage in corner opportunities, 7-1.

Next up for Oberlin is a non-conference home match on September 5 against Mount Union College (5:00 p.m.).
