-- In a chilly North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer contest this evening at Denison University, the Oberlin Yeomen were edged in Granville, Ohio, 0-1, to fall to 6-5-3 (1-3-1 NCAC) on the year. The host Big Red improved to 8-3-1 overall and 2-2-0 in league play with the one-goal triumph.
Denison's Ryan Linn, who led all players with six shots on the night, scored the game-winner 38:17 into the first half, and it was enough for the Big Red to hold onto the 1-0 win. Denison out-shot Oberlin, 12-8, but the Yeomen controlled the pace of the second half and matched the Big Red in shot attempts with five. Both teams had four corner kick opportunities in the match.
Derrick Bean saved six shots in goal for Oberlin, while Denison's Kevin Donahue earned the shutout victory with four saves in 90 minutes of action. Sam Zackheim led all Oberlin players with four shot attempts. Four other Yeomen had one shot in the contest.
Oberlin aims to get back into the win column on Saturday when it hosts Wittenberg University. The NCAC showdown against the Tigers is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. at newly constructed Fred Shults Field.
