Senior tri-captain Zach Tesler scored two goals this afternoon against the Little Giants

October 28, 2006 -- The Oberlin College men's soccer team won a huge game on the road this afternoon at Wabash College. Head Coach Blake New's Yeomen defeated the Little Giants, 4-0, to secure one of the four available spots in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament. In a game in which 13 Oberlin players were able to come off the bench and see playing time, Oberlin dominated Wabash by out-shooting the hosts 16-3 and earning a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. With the victory, the Yeomen improved to 8-4-5 overall and 5-2-2 in the NCAC. The Little Giants slipped to 3-14-1 (1-7-1 NCAC).

Senior defender Zachary Tesler led the way for Oberlin this afternoon, scoring two goals. Junior Sam Zackheim and sophomore Zachary Lewis also both found the net for the Yeomen, while sophomore Kyle Taljan and first-year Matt Aucunas had assists. Senior tri-captain Clayton Combe held the Little Giants scoreless for 81:39 and sophomore Derrick Bean prevented Wabash from scoring for the remainder of the match. Combe had three saves on the day to increase his season total to 66.

Oberlin's defense has been stellar this year, as opposing teams have only scored 16 goals in 17 games. This afternoon in Crawford, Indiana, the hosts were prevented from taking a single shot in the second half.

The Yeomen finished the 2006 season with an undefeated 5-0-3 record at home on this year's temporary field. That record will remain flawless as Oberlin will begin play at the brand-new Fred Shuts Field next fall.

The NCAC tournament will begin for Oberlin next Wednesday in an away contest at Denison University. The semi-final match against the Big Red is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
