Oberlin Drops Non-Conference Game to Muskingum, 0-2

September 16, 2006 -- The Oberlin men's soccer team traveled to Muskingum College this afternoon for a non-conference contest. Despite leading the game in several statistical categories and a solid all-around team effort, the Yeomen were defeated by the Muskies, 0-2. The win was the fourth straight for Muskingum as the hosts improved to 4-2, while Oberlin slide to 1-2-3 with the loss.

Defense has been the name of the game thus far for the 2006 Yeomen, as they have been in contention to win every game they have played. Oberlin's offense has more often than not also out-shot the opposing offense in contests this season. This afternoon, the Yeomen registered 13 shots to Muskingum's 16, but they held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.

After battling the Muskies to a 0-0 tie heading into halftime, it looked as if the Yeomen would possibly be facing their fourth overtime contest of the season. However, Adam Mitchell's header three minutes into the second period was all the hosts would need to earn the non-conference win.

In another tune-up before North Coast Athletic Conference play begins on Sept. 26, the Yeomen will visit Bluffton College on Sept. 20 for their next contest. The non-conference contest against the Beavers is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
