Senior Zach Tesler score the Yeomen's lone goal in a 1-1 tie at Wittenberg |
-- Mother nature made things difficult for a number of Oberlin's team this evening, and the men's soccer team's contest at Wittenberg University was certainly no exception. With the score knotted at 1-1, the game in Springfield, Ohio was called due to inclement weather with just over three minutes left in regulation. With the North Coast Athletic Conference tie, the Yeomen's record now stands at 4-2-4 (1-0-1 NCAC), while the Tigers moved to 4-5-2 and 0-1-1 in conference competition.
Senior tri-captain Zachary Tesler scored on a breakaway in the first half to give Oberlin a 1-0 lead at halftime. After a missed penalty shot by the Yeomen with 20 minutes left in the game, Wittenberg scored a goal with 16 minutes remaining in the contest to tie the game at 1-1. Heavy lightening with 3:19 showing on the game clock forced the officials to call the game a draw.
Clayton Combe had another solid game in goal for Head Coach Blake New, as the senior tri-captain collected three saves. Tesler's goal was his second of the 2006 campaign.
Oberlin was out-shot in tonight's game, 8-10, and Wittenberg also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Yeomen will return to action on Tuesday, October 3 when they voyage to Allegheny College (Pa.). The NCAC match-up with the Gators is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
