Yeomen Keep Rolling With 3-0 Win at Kenyon

October 21, 2006 -- Head Coach Blake New's men's soccer team continued to rack up the wins today with a 3-0 triumph at Kenyon College. Oberlin out-shot the Lords 10-5 and senior goalkeeper Clayton Combe picked up his sixth shutout of the season as the Yeokickers improved to 7-4-4 overall and 4-2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Yeomen scored two goals in the first half, with sophomore Luke Hoffman striking first off a pass from first-year Matt Aucunas 10:59 into the game. Roughly 31 minutes later, junior Sam Zackheim headed a shot into the goal off a cross from sophomore Kyle Taljan to give Oberlin a 2-0 lead at the half. The only goal of the second half came when sophomore Zachary Lewis provided an unassisted insurance goal with 3:22 left in the contest.

Combe saved one shot today en route to the shutout victory. Elliot Forhan saved three shots for the host Lords.

"Today was a good sign for our team, as we didn't necessarily play that well, but we were still able to pull out the win," New said. "We weren't clicking on all cylinders, but we still did the things we needed to do to pick up a win."

The Yeomen will play their last home game of the season on October 24 when Denison University visits Oberlin. The key NCAC showdown with the Big Red is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
