Men's Soccer Routs Bluffton University for 6-2 Non-Conference Victory

September 20, 2006 -- After battling to three double-overtime ties early in the 2006 season, the Oberlin men's soccer team founds its offensive rhythm just in the nick of time today. In a non-conference road contest at Bluffton University, the Yeomen trounced the Beavers by the score of 6-2 to improve to 2-2-3 on the year. Bluffton remains winless after the defeat at 0-5.

Despite Oberlin's scoring onslaught, today's game was relatively quiet for the first 20 minutes of action until Bluffton's Patrick Jackson scored to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Their lead would be short-lived, though, as Oberlin's Tettah Morton (Sr.) scored off a feed from first-year Skyler Dum 30:07 into the game to tie the score at 1-1. After the first of two goals by sophomore Zach Lewis 37:58 into the first half, Oberlin coasted to a 6-1 lead thanks to five unanswered goals over the next 30 minutes.

Every player on the Yeomen's roster, including all three goalkeepers, managed to see playing time in this afternoon's victory. Oberlin out-shot Bluffton 21-11 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Also scoring goals for the Yeomen today were Dum, first-year Matt Aucunas, and sophomore Michael Mullaley. Providing assists were Dum, Mullaley, junior Sam Zackheim, senior tri-captain Montgomery Lobe, and sophomore Kyle Taljan.

"It was nice for us to finally score some goals," Head Coach Blake New said. "Four of our goals were perfectly executed and would have been good against any opponent. We played great and finished well."
