Allegheny College Defeats Oberlin Men's Soccer Team, 4-0

October 3, 2006 -- The Oberlin men's soccer team traveled to Meadville, Pa. this evening to face the host Gators in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest under the lights. Oberlin hadn't lost in four straight games, but #21 Allegheny held the Yeomen scoreless, earning a 4-0 victory. The loss dropped Oberlin's record to 4-3-4 (1-1-1 NCAC), while the Gators improved to 8-1-2 (2-1-0 NCAC).

Allegheny played aggressively throughout the night, tallying 27 fouls to Oberlin's 12, and scored 5:31 into the game off a goal by Nathaniel Yates. The Gators scored once again shortly before the half, taking a 2-0 lead into the intermission. In the second half, Allegheny scored goals off a breakaway and a penalty kick to secure the 4-0 win.

Senior tri-captain Zachary Tesler had half of Oberlin's shots, registering four attempts on the night. Classmate and fellow tri-captain Clayton Combe had six saves in 90 minutes of action. For the game, Allegheny out-shot Oberlin 16-8, while the Yeomen had seven corner kicks to the Gators' one.

The Yeomen return home on Saturday when Earlham College (Ind.) visits Oberlin for a 2:30 p.m. NCAC showdown.
