Final Stats
March 22 – After traveling from Hilton Head, S.C. where the team had been training during the college’s spring break to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. the Oberlin College Yeomen were unable to keep pace with the Brewers of Vassar College this afternoon losing 11-5.
Oberlin falls to 0-2 with the loss to Vassar (3-7), a team whom the Yeomen had beaten in the previous three tries.
The Brewers opened their scoring account early as Tristan Jemiolo netted a goal just 31 seconds into the game. The Yeomen’s Jesse Kane, a junior midfielder knotted the score with 9:06 remaining in the first period with a man up goal for his fourth goal of the season. Oberlin trailed 2-1 entering the second stanza but drew level on a goal from Alex Strand.
Oberlin trailed 4-2 at the break and would get no closer as Vassar continued to press scoring two goals in six minute span during the third period stretching the lead to 6-2. The Yeomen’s Nick Sherman also grabbed his fourth goal of the season with 7:47 remaining in the third.
Owen Campbell and Rob Bond would each contribute to Oberlin’s score line as they each put shots passed Brewer goalie Ed Pappo at the end of the third and midway through the fourth period, respectively.
Yeomen goalie Drew Zambelli, who made 22 saves in the game after facing 50 shots from the unyielding Vassar offense. The Brewers picked up 55 ground balls in comparison to Oberlin’s 36 for the game.
Oberlin returns to action Wednesday, April 2 at 4:30 p.m. as they play host to North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University at Fred Shults Field.
