Yeomen Defeat Vassar College, 11-9, to Pick Up First Win of Season

April 1, 2007 -- A strong alumni following witnessed a thrilling 11-9 victory today for the Oberlin men's lacrosse team at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. With the score tied at 9-9 with 4:27 left in the game, first-year Erik Strand scored the game-winner for the Yeomen, as they improved to 1-5 on the year. Vassar dropped to 1-9 with the defeat.

Strand and fellow first-year Alex Jacobs both scored three goals for Head Coach Kevin Walz, while senior quad-captain Bryan Harfenist was the star of the day with five goals. Sophomore quad-captain Jesse Kane also won seven faceoffs for the Yeomen and junior goalkeeper Drew Zambelli saved 22 shots in 60 minutes of work to earn the win.

Oberlin will next play on April 11 when it travels to Mount Saint Joseph for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference game.
