Head Coach Kevin Walz and the Oberlin men's lacrosse
team won their third straight match this afternoon
with a 18-9 defeat of visiting Medaille College.
With the win, Oberlin improved to 3-5, while Medaille
slipped to 3-7.
Oberlin jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead
after the first quarter of play, then led 10-2 at the
intermission. The second was rather evenly played by
the two teams, but the Yeomen again outscored the visitors
8-7 to earn the 18-9 win at Savage Stadium.
Five different Yeomen scored two or more
goals today to help Oberlin score 18 goals for the
second consecutive match. First-year Erik Strand led
the way by notching five goals to give himself a team-best
19 on the year. Strand also dished out an assist
and scooped up seven ground balls.
Oberlin also received four goals each
from senior Bryan Harfenist and first-year Nick Sherman,
while senior Ian Mark added three goal and first-year
Alex Jacobs scored twice. Sophomore Jesse Kane had
a very strong game from his midfield position, racking
up a game-high 11 ground balls and winning 12 face-offs.
Junior goalkeeper Drew Zambelli saved 15 shots in 50
minutes of work.
Medaille was led today Matt Walker, who
scored five goals.
The Yeomen will return to action on April
18 when Washington and Jefferson College visits Oberlin
for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference match.
