-- Visiting Fontbonne University (Mo.) edged the Oberlin men's lacrosse team this afternoon in a non-conference match at Savage Stadium, 11-10. With the loss, the Yeomen fell to 3-7 overall.
Oberlin out-shot the Griffins 42-38 and also won the ground ball advantage 40-12, but the hosts just weren't quite able to muster up enough offense to come away with the win. Three different Yeomen scored three goals this afternoon — Bryan Harfenist, Jesse Kane, and Erik Strand. Kane had a stellar game, as he also won 14 face-offs and scooped up a game-high nine ground balls.
Fontbonne led 2-1 after the first period and then Oberlin tied up the game 5-5 before the intermission. In the third period, the Griffins scored five goals to take a 10-7 lead that was too much for Oberlin to come back from in the fourth. The visitors were paced by R. Begley, who netted three scores.
First-year goalkeeper Alex Frank played a strong game in his second career start. Playing for injured starter Drew Zambelli, Frank saved 13 shots in 60 minutes of action.
The Yeomen will play next on April 25 when the Big Red of Denison University visit Savage Stadium for a 4:30 p.m. NCAC showdown.
