-- Several weeks ago just before commencement weekend, the annual Oberlin alumni lacrosse game was a great success as former and current players got together for a game and post-game barbeque. Former players returned for the weekend to play against the varsity squad and visit with old teammates.
A large group of players including alumni from the 1970’s, 80s, 90’s and 00’s made the trip back to Oberlin. Several players from last year’s squad, including 2006’s co-captains Will Jaffee and Andrew Crosby, came back to play on the alumni side for the first time along with players from the seventies who have been playing in the alumni game for years. Oberlin’s all-time leading career point scorer, Ryan Kelley (’96), returned and scored a few goals in the game.
The current squad got to suit up and play as a team for the last time. The varsity team started off a bit slow, but eventually got rolling and beat the alumni. The alumni were able to view first-hand how the lacrosse program has been developing and get to know the current players.
The program looks forward to the game next spring and hopes that even more alumni will participate. The game provides a great opportunity to play lacrosse and link the different generations of Yeomen lacrosse.
