Final Stats
February 26 – Making their first NCAC Tournament appearance in seven years, the Oberlin College men’s basketball team could not knockoff the top-seeded Fighting Scots of Wooster – falling 104-71 on Tuesday night in quarterfinal action.
Junior Omari Hall poured in a career-high 22 points on 10-of-13 of shooting, while fellow junior Mike Loll added 13 of his own. In his final game in the crimson and gold, Matthew Godwin added 12 points to go along with seven assists. Pat Bernhard rounded out Oberlin’s double-digit scorers with 10 points.
“We came in here and fought extremely hard,” head coach Isaiah Cavaco said. “They are a very good team that executed well tonight as they showed why they are one of the better teams in Division III.”
The Yeomen got within 15, 51-36 to start the second half, but the Scots maturity and experience shined through as they quickly put an end to the OC threat and never looked back.
OC trailed 12-7 in the early going, but the Scots ripped off a 15-2 run over the next six minutes to build a 27-9 lead at the midway point of the first half. A Godwin triple-hit finally ended the run but the Wooster offense would not relinquish as the Scots went into the locker room with a 51-32 lead.
Wooster shot a staggering 55.7 percent (34-of-61) from the floor, while Oberlin also checked in with a very impressive 49-percent (27-of-55) effort.
The Scots also held a large advantage at the free-throw line – making 37 trips to stripe – converting 28 (75 percent), while Oberlin went to line just 10 times – cashing in nine.
The Scots also posted a 24-2 advantage on second-chance points, and converted 19 Yeomen turnovers into 22 points. |
