February 16 - Oberlin had four players score in double-figures, but it wasn’t enough as the Yeomen fell to the Wabash Little Giants 97-73 on Saturday afternoon at Chadwick Court.
Junior Mike Loll led the Yeomen with 20 points and season-high 14 rebounds. Fellow junior Omari Hall added a season-best 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting. First-years Ryan Magiera and Pat Bernhard added 13 points a piece for OC.
“We played hard and competed very well today,” head coach Isaiah Cavaco said. “However, we really had no answer inside for (Andrew) Zimmer.”
Zimmer, a 6-foot-6 center, scored a career-high 36 points and snagged a career-best 14 boards for Wabash. Wesley Smith also added 21 of his own for the victors.
Oberlin (4-19, 3-11 NCAC) trailed by just seven, 45-38, at the break, but never really threatened in the second half as Wabash (15-8, 9-5) quickly built up an 18-point edge, 63-45, six minutes into the second session and never looked back.
OC was outscored 38-22 in the paint and lost the rebounding battle 53-36. The Little Giants also capitalized off of 19 Oberlin turnovers – converting them in 26 points.
The Yeomen connected on 43.1 percent (28-of-65) of their shots – including 7-of-16 (43.8 percent) from long range. Wabash checked in at a 42.7 percent (32-of-75) – converting 11-of-20 (55 percent) from 3-point land, while also nailing 22-of-29 (76 percent) attempts at the line.
Oberlin will back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 20) when it hits the road to take on Ohio Wesleyan. Tip-time is set for 7:30 p.m. |
