Strong Second Half Not Enough to Push Oberlin Past Allegheny

Final Stats

January 16 – Oberlin College outscored Allegheny 38-29 in the second half, but could not overcome a sluggish first half as they fell to the Gators 76-61 on Wednesday night.

Mike Loll led the Yeomen with 13 points, while Jordan Beard added 11 of his own with nine coming in the second half to pace Oberlin’s offensive attack.

“We came out very flat in the first half,” head coach Isaiah Cavaco said. “I was a little disappointed early on, but I was proud of the way we fought back with a great effort in the second half.”

The Yeomen (3-11, 2-3 NCAC) had no answer inside for George Raftis as he scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the opening stanza - which helped the Gators (8-6, 3-2 NCAC) claim a 47-23 lead at the break.

Oberlin connected on 46.3 percent (25-of-54) of its attempts on the night, while the Gators cashed in 51.9 percent (28-of-54) of their shots in the game. Allegheny won the rebounding battle 37-26 and registered 12 second-chance points.

The Yeomen will have the luxury of staying home on the weekend as NCAC foe Wabash comes to town for 1 p.m. showdown.
