Oberlin visited Ohio Wesleyan this evening for a North Coast Athletic Conference showdown in Delaware. The Battling Bishops shot a scorching 57.1 percent from the floor for the game, including 61.1 percent in the first half, to down the Yeomen, 96-59. With the loss, Oberlin's record falls to 4-20 overall and 3-12 in league play. Ohio Wesleyan improves to 16-8 (10-5 NCAC) with the victory.
The Battling Bishops scored 57 points in the first period to claim a 25-point lead over Oberlin. The hosts cooled off a bit in the finale, but still outscored the Yeomen 39-27.
Sophomore forward Mike Loll led all scorers with 23 points. He also added a team-high seven rebounds and shot 4-5 from beyond the arc and 7-11 overall from the floor. Senior co-captain Quinton Spencer also reached double figures for the Yeomen, netting 10 points on 4-9 shooting.
Ohio Wesleyan's Dustin Rudegeair scored 20 points on 9-12 shooting in just 17 minutes of action. Also in 17 minutes of work, Jesse Jean contributed 15 points and 13 rebounds.
For the game, the Bishops outrebounded Oberlin 43-25 and held a 36-18 scoring advantage in the paint. The hosts also shot an impressive 12-24 from three-point range.
Oberlin will close out its season at home on Saturday against Earlham College (Ind.). Tip-off against the Quakers is slated for 3:00 p.m. The men's alumni basketball game will also be played at 10:45 a.m.
