January 24, 2007 --
Visiting Ohio Wesleyan University (12-6, 6-3 North Coast Athletic
Conference) jumped out to a 17-0 lead to begin tonight's NCAC contest
at Oberlin and never looked back, leaving Philips Gym with a 96-59
victory. Oberlin falls to 3-15 overall and 2-7 in league play with the
defeat.
Ohio Wesleyan's early advantage was difficult for Oberlin to chip at, as despite several nice scoring runs by the Yeomen in the second half, the Bishops were able to hold onto a comfortable lead throughout the final period.
The Yeomen were led tonight by junior Jordan Beard and sophomore Mike Loll, who both scored 15 points. First-year Dylan Venable added eight points, seven rebounds, and four steals for Oberlin.
The Battling Bishops shot an impressive 62.5 percent from the floor and outscored Oberlin in the paint, 50-8. Additionally, the visitors scored 59 points off the bench and outrebounded Oberlin, 46-21, including 19 offensive boards. The Yeomen shot a solid 21-24 from the charity stripe and also 8-22 from downtown. Beard and sophomore guard Omari Hall both had two treys for Oberlin.
Ohio Wesleyan's Jesse Jean led all scorers with 20 points on 9-11 shooting in just 16 minutes of action. Brian Cafarella and Kyle Miller added 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Battling Bishops.
Oberlin's next game will be on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Yeomen will square off against NCAC foe Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind.
