December 30, 2006 -- The Oberlin men's basketball team traveled to Adrian College (Mich.) this afternoon for a non-conference holiday contest. The host Bulldogs (1-8) jumped out to a 36-18 lead at halftime and never looked back, picking up their first win of the season. The Yeomen slipped to 2-8 on the year with the 40-77 defeat, as they continue to fine-tune their game before the thick of the North Coast Athletic Conference schedule commences in January.
Sophomore Mike Loll shot 4-8 from the floor today, including 1-2 from three-point land, and led all Oberlin scorers with 10 points. Senior Quinton Spencer netted eight points, and junior Jordan Beard tallied seven points on 5-6 shooting from the charity stripe. First-year Jerome Goings and sophomore Omari Hall contributed six and five points, respectively.
Adrian was led by Steve Thornton's 19 points and nine rebounds. Ryan Gallus added 10 points and three other players scored eight points for the Bulldogs.
Oberlin aims to get back onto the winning track in 2007 by hosting Carnegie Mellon on January 2 at 7:30 p.m.
