April 28 – Former Oberlin College football standout Chris Schubert has been invited to take part in the Cleveland Browns Mini Camp, which run from Thursday through Sunday at the Browns Complex in Berea, Ohio.
The mini camp is for all Browns recent draft picks, undrafted free agents and local players with the potential ability to play at the highest level.
“I got the call yesterday from Browns director of player personnel, T.J. McCreight, and he invited me to camp and I was just so excited I started calling everyone I know,” Schubert said. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and will hopefully be able to take full advantage of it.”
In 2007, Schubert led OC in catches (60), receiving yards (723), TD catches (6) and all-purpose yards (2,041). He also had an 84-yard kickoff return for a TD in Oberlin’s 63-33 win over Kenyon (Nov. 3) and a 43-yard punt return for a score in the Yeomen’s 49-14 victory over Hiram (Sept. 29) in 2007.
As a senior, Schubert also earned First-Team All-NCAC honors as a wide receiver and return specialist. He also garnered the Michael P. Dougan Yeoman Award as the senior who shows the most courage and devotion to Oberlin Football and was named as team’s Special Forces Player of the Year, being one of the top return men in the conference.
“This is obviously a true testament to Chris’ ability as a football player,” head coach Jeff Ramsey said. “ He has worked so hard for us during his time here, and I am glad to see the Browns recognized his talents and effort. He is truly deserving of this opportunity.”
The 2008 Oberlin football season will get underway on Sept. 6 when Washington and Jefferson comes to town for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
Note: T.J. McCreight was wide receivers coach at Oberlin in 1993.
