Oberlin Falls in Non-Conference Contest at W&J, 26-56

September 22, 2007 -- The Oberlin football team traveled to nationally-ranked Washington and Jefferson College this evening for a non-conference showdown under the lights in Washington, Pa. The Yeomen put up a strong fight against the Presidents, but the hosts utilized a strong passing attack and 35 first-half points to earn a 56-26 win over the Yeomen. The Presidents remain undefeated at 3-0 with the win, while Oberlin slipped to 0-3 on the year.

While the first half belonged to the Presidents, Oberlin was only out-scored by two points in the second half, 19-21. Washington and Jefferson's quarterback, Bobby Swallow, had a five-touchdown night in which he threw for 405 yards. Oberlin quarterback Greg Mangan had an efficient night, completing 26 of 35 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown.

Senior wide receiver Chris Schubert and junior running back R.V. Carroll led Oberlin throughout the game. Schubert caught seven passes for 108 yards and a touchdown, while Carroll had his best game on the ground of the year with 15 carries for 69 yards and a score, as well as seven catches for 38 yards. First-year running back Ryan Harvey also scored a touchdown for Oberlin, as he tallied 29 yards on nine carries. Schubert also had 220 return yards on the night. Defensively, Cody Hartley led the Yeomen with six tackles.

With its non-conference schedule in the books, Oberlin will look to get off to a 1-0 start in the NCAC when it hosts Hiram College on Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m. The contest is part of Oberlin's homecoming activities. For more information, Click Here.
