R.V. Carroll (Jr.) |
October 15, 2007 -- Junior running back R.V. Carroll was named the North Coast Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week after an incredible performance this past Saturday against Earlham College. Carroll scored four consecutive touchdowns in the second half to lead the Yeomen to a 42-14 NCAC win over the Quakers.
A native of Perry, Ohio (Perry High School), Carroll impressed the fans at Savage Stadium by racking up 217 yards on 34 carries. His rushing total was the third-best single-game effort by a Yeoman. Carroll now holds four out of the top six all-time performances. Last season, he rushed for a school record 336 yards at Kenyon, 213 yards at Hiram, and 212 yards at Earlham.
After a rather slow start to the 2007 season by his standards, Carroll now leads the NCAC in rushing with 609 yards and has scored 10 rushing touchdowns - twice more than the next best with five. He is also the only running back in the conference to average over 100 yards per game (101.5).
Carroll currently has scored 31 overall (30 rushing, one receiving) touchdowns in his career. The all-time career record at Oberlin is 32, set by running back Alan Spiegelberg from 1959-1962. He is currently one short of Spiegelberg for all-time rushing touchdowns as well. Senior wide receiver Chris Schubert has scored 29 touchdowns in his career thus far.
Carroll will look to lead the Yeomen past undefeated Wabash College this Saturday in an NCAC battle Crawfordsville, Ind.
