October 27, 2007 -- The Oberlin
football team led 6-3 today against host Wittenberg
University, but the Tigers were able to rally for three
straight touchdowns to eventually win, 38-14. The Yeomen
slipped to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC with the
loss. Wittenberg improved to 6-2 (4-1 NCAC) with the
victory.
The Yeomen trailed 14-24 to open up the
third quarter, and after an impressive defensive stop,
it looked as if Oberlin would rally to get even closer.
However, the Tigers forced a quick Oberlin punt and
then scored with 9:58 left in the third to go up 31-14
and put the game effectively out of reach.
Oberlin was led in the loss by R.V. Carroll,
who ran for 84 yards and two scores, and Chris Schubert,
who caught seven passes for 97 yards, including an
incredible 25-yard reception in the second half. Greg
Mangan went 27-47 for 270 yards. Defensively, Chase
Palmer had nine of his team-high 12 tackles in the
first half. Geoff Sirockman added nine tackles.
Wittenberg was led by fullback Andy Vanover,
who rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns.
Oberlin will host Kenyon next Saturday
for a 1:00 p.m. NCAC showdown at Savage Stadium.
