Chase Palmer (Jr.) |
January 22, 2007 -- Seven members of the Oberlin football team were recently named to the Don Hansen National Weekly Football Gazette's Division III North All-Region Team. R.V. Carroll, a sophomore running back from Perry, Ohio (Perry High School) and Chase Palmer, a junior defensive back from Highland, Utah (Snow College), headlined the group by earning second team honors.
Carroll
re-wrote Oberlin's rushing record book this
season, breaking a plethora of marks, including yardage in a game (336)
and season (1,280). He also earned honorable mention all-purpose honors from the Football Gazette after gaining 166.7 total yards per game this season, good for third in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Carroll was second in the league in rushing with 128 yards per contest.
Palmer
was quite impressive in his debut season at Oberlin, leading all NCAC
defensive backs in tackles (106) and finishing second overall in the
conference in the same category. Palmer also paced the NCAC in
interceptions (five) and total passes defended. Fellow defensive back LaKristopher DeVant
(Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) earned third team All-Region honors.
Devant also had a solid season for Head Coach
Jeff Ramsey, accumulating 50 tackles (6.5 for a loss), 1.5 sacks, a
blocked kick, six pass breakups, and two interceptions (one for a
touchdown).
Four other Yeomen earned honorable mention All-Region accolades from the Football Gazette. Sophomore quarterback Greg Mangan, junior wide receivers Chris Schubert and Cassius Harris, and junior defensive end Chris Pisani each received the honor.
Mangan (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius) topped the Oberlin season marks for passing yards (2,404) and total offensive yards (2,394). Both of those records bested quarterback James Parker's efforts in 1997. Mangan also set a new school record for single-season completion percentage, going 186 for 276 (67.5%) in 2006. His extremely efficient passing percentage broke the 47-year-old mark of 58.2%, set by Jack Coniam.
Schubert (Oberlin, Ohio/Oberlin) snagged 49 catches for 620 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while also breaking the career records for punt and kick return yardage.
Harris
(Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy)
led the Yeomen in receptions (53) and receiving yards (833),
finishing fourth and third in the conference in the two categories,
respectively.
Pisani
(Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick)
is the Yeomen's all-time leader in sacks (19), and he tallied 55 tackles and team-highs of 12 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks this year. He
was Oberlin's lone pick to the NCAC's first team in November. Six other Yeomen received All-NCAC honors after the 2006 campaign. Schubert and Pisani were both Football Gazette Pre-Season All-Americans.
