February 28, 2007 --
The accolades keep rolling in for Oberlin's cross country
teams, as both the Yeomen and Yeowomen were recently
honored for their academic efforts by the United States
Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association
(USTFCCA). The men and women received Division III
All-Academic Team honors for achieving accumulative
grade-point averages of 3.29 and 3.44, respectively.
A 3.1 GPA is required to receive the award, and just
86 men's teams and 112 women's teams did so.
Senior
Travis Grout and junior Marie Barnett were both tabbed
as All-Academic individual performers by the USTFCCA.
Grout, one of three captains for the Yeomen this year,
was the highest finishing Oberlin runner at the North
Coast Athletic Championships. The Jefferson, Ohio,
native placed fourth with a time of 27:07, earning
first team All-NCAC recognition.
Barnett was also a tri-captain for the
Yeowomen, who claimed their second NCAC title this
past October. A native of Acton, Mass., Barnett led
Oberlin with a fifth-place finish and a first team
all-conference time of 25:10.
Only 185 female and 108 male cross country
runners earned individual all-academic honors from
the USTFCCA this season. To qualify, runners needed
to boast a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
