Game One Box
Game Two Box
March 14 – The Oberlin College baseball team opened its season by dropping both ends of a twinbill against Maryville College on Friday afternoon.
Oberlin’s offense was very stagnant in both games - falling 8-1 and 11-8 – managing just six hits on the afternoon.
One may think that the horrific baseball weather followed the Yeomen from Oberlin to Maryville, Tenn. as rain fell throughout the doubleheader. The Yeomen were hoping for better weather down south as this was the first time they have stepped foot onto a diamond all spring due to the horrible weather in Ohio.
“The conditions were not very good at all,” head coach Eric Lahetta said. “We also had a bunch of first-year players making their collegiate debuts, but we did some things well that we will hopefully build upon for tomorrow.”
In game one, the OC (0-2) offense was quieted by the pitching of A.J. Herron as he went the distance, allowing just two hits and one run, while striking out five.
Reining First-Team All-NCAC selection Jack Dunn got the start for Oberlin, but was touched up for six hits and five walks – allowing six earned runs.
In game two, the Yeomen posted one run in each of the first three innings, but the Scots scored 10 runs in the first four innings. Oberlin responded with a five-run fifth but it could not complete the comeback.
Cal Kyrkostas went 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Benjamin Master was 2-for-3 and drew two walks from his leadoff spot in the nightcap.
Oberlin will look to avenge the sweep tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader against Thiel College. First Pitch is set for 1 p.m.
