March 23 – Junior tri-captain P.J. Carter picked up his first win of the season in a 9-5 victory in game one, but the Yeomen fell behind early in game two, dropping a 10-2 decision to earn a split against Knox College on Sunday afternoon.
Carter, a right-handed hurler from Lorain, Ohio, went all seven innings as he scattered five runs (two earned) and struck out seven batters along the way.
OC continued to get a strong contribution from its first-year players as Brandon Cantrill went 2-of-4 with three RBIs, while Ryan Mouch checked in with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate – scoring three times in the game.
The Yeomen (3-5) fell behind 3-0 heading into the third inning, but the OC offense came to life with four runs in the frame, capped off by Cantrill’s three-run double – giving Oberlin the lead for good.
In game two, the Prairie Fire jumped on Cantrill early as he surrendered five runs over the first three innings to take the loss.
Kyle Buzzard, one of the 12 first-year players on Oberlin, was the lone bright spot on offense in the nightcap as he went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base.
The Yeomen will return to the diamond tomorrow for a single game against Colby College. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. MST (4:30 p.m. EST).
Note: Box Scores will be posted as soon as they become available.
