Game One Box l Game Two Box
April 2 – Oberlin scored two runs in the top of seventh in game one to win 5-3, but Hiram scored three times in the sixth in game two to earn a 5-4 win and salvage the doubleheader with a split.
In game one the Yeomen offense was led by Ben Puterbaugh as he went 3-for-4 with four RBIs – including a key RBI double in the top half of the seventh.
Oberlin also got some solid run production from its top and bottom of the order as leadoff man Ben Master and No. 9 hitter Ben Kauder each scored twice.
Left-handed ace Jack Dunn went the distance on the mound – allowing three earned runs on six hits. He also walked six and struck out six.
In game two, Oberlin jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second inning after taking advantage of three Hiram errors in the inning.
The Terries responded with a run in the fourth while the OC offense disappeared the rest of the way – mustering up just one hit after the second inning.
It appeared as if starter [Ben] Kauder was cruising along to his second win of the season, but in the home-half of the sixth Hiram touched him up for three runs, which proved to be the difference.
Kauder’s final line reads 5.1 IP, seven hits, five runs (four earned) and two Ks.
Oberlin will look to open its home schedule starting on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Wooster. Fans will be able to hear both ends of the doubleheader and/or follow along with live stats on www.oberlin.edu/athletic.
