Baseball Drops Slugfest to Colby, 14-10

Verne’s Words: Inside the 2008 Spring Break Trip to Phoenix for the Oberlin College Baseball Team

Colby 14 - Oberlin 10

March 24 – Oberlin had six players with at least two hits, but its pitching and defense were nowhere to be found as they fell to Colby College 14-10 late Monday night in Phoenix, Ariz.

First-year Shane Hisner did a tremendous job setting the table for the OC offense from his leadoff spot as he went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, two runs scored and two walks. Fellow first-year Ben Master added a career-high three hits and added two runs scored.

Two of the three team captains, Jeremy Simon and P.J. Carter, combined for four hits, five RBIs and two runs. Both of Carter’s hits went for extra bases as he pounded out a double and a triple.

First-years Ben Puterbaugh and Ryan Mouch also contributed two hits and one RBI each in the game.

Junior Eric Gibbs got the start on the bump and took the loss. First-year Phil Brua did work three scoreless-innings of relief – allowing just two hits and fanning one.

Note: Box Scores will be posted as soon as they become available.
