Mountaineers Take Two From the Yeomen

Game One Box l Game Two Box

March 16 –
It was a tale of two different games, but the outcome was the same as the Oberlin College baseball team dropped both ends of doubleheader to Berea College, falling 5-3 and 15-12 on Sunday afternoon in Berea, Ky.

Making up a pair of snow-outs from last weekend, the Yeomen and Mountaineers finally met up on the diamond with Oberlin (0-4) not finding the result it was looking for.

After a slow offensive performance in game one, the Oberlin offense came to life in game two with a 12-run explosion, but the Yeomen were plagued by an 11-run fifth inning that allowed Berea to escape with the win and the double-header sweep.

First-year Brandon Cantrill made his collegiate-debut on the mound, throwing four-plus innings – allowing just four hits and two earned runs along the way.

Sophomore Jack Dunn had his second-straight rough outing as he replaced Cantrill on the bump and was touched-up by the Mountaineers’ bats in the fifth – falling to 0-2 on the year.

Benjamin Master had another strong day at the plate as he was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Fellow first-year player, Ryan Mouch also added two hits and two runs.

P.J Carter and Wayne Mundekis each went 2-for-3 at the dish as they both scored a pair of runs in the nightcap.

In game one, Carter got the starting call on the mound as he took the loss after allowing three hits and three earned runs in his three innings of work. First-year Grady Campion did a solid job in relief as he allowed just one earned run on four hits, striking out five and walking none through the final three frames.

Oberlin will look for its first win of the season on Tuesday when it makes the short trek over to Lake Erie College. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
