March 18, 2007 -- Oberlin lost a pair of games this afternoon to Maryville College in non-conference action in Knoxville, Tenn. The Yeomen were edged 1-3 and 1-5 in the twinbill to drop to 1-6 overall on the year. The Scots improved to 16-7 with the victory.
Four different Yeomen had hits in the game, but first-year Zach Berman scored the lone Oberlin run in the 1-3 defeat. First-year pitcher Jack Dunn earned the loss after going five innings and compiling three strikeouts, while sophomore Jeremy Simon pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Sophomore Brian Verne led the way offensively for the Yeomen, going 1-3 with a double, stolen base, and hit-by-pitch.
In game two, senior Jesse Cullen-Dupont led the way with a 2-3 hitting performance, including Oberlin's lone run batted in. Berman and senior catcher Rick Betzel both smacked doubles for the Yeomen, while Berman again scored Oberlin's only run of the contest.
Oberlin will host Lake Erie College on March 21 for its next game. The non-conference nine-inning game against the Storm is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
