April 28, 2007 -- The Oberlin baseball team split a twinbill today against Hiram College, 1-2 and 8-7. The Yeomen's record now stands at 13-21 (6-8 NCAC), while the Terriers are 5-27 (1-13 NCAC).
First-year pitcher Jack Dunn threw a complete game in the opener, giving up just two runs in the first inning, but the Yeomen were unable to rally back late in the game, falling 1-2. Dunn racked up eight strikeouts in the contest, giving him 67 on the year. He needs just four more to break the single season record of 70, set by Troy DeWitt '04 in 2004.
In the second game of the day, Oberlin rallied back from a 3-7 deficit by scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh to pick up a 8-7 win at Dill Field. Senior Rick Betzel led the offense with a three RBI double in the seventh, while the game-winner came off an error by Hiram's pitcher, which scored pinch runner Brian Verne.
Oberlin will host Myers University tomorrow for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader. | |
