Oberlin to Host 2010 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships

April 28 – Oberlin College has been awarded the 2010 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships, President Marvin Krislov announced on Saturday. The event will take place at the newly dedicated Don Hunsinger Courts.

The College and the North Coast Athletic Conference have worked with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission to bring this event to the campus of Oberlin College.

"I am thrilled that Oberlin will have the honor of hosting the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship in 2010,” Krislov said. “Athletics is an important part of our contemporary campus life. Hosting such an important event is a tribute to the determination and commitment of our athletic department staff, our students, our alumni and our faculty to building on Oberlin’s rich athletic tradition."

The Championship event will take place the last week of May and will be the 37th annual NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship. UC Santa Cruz was the 2007 team champion, while Matt Seeberger also of UC Santa Cruz was the individual champion.

“I would like to thank President Krislov, Rob Marron of the Cleveland Sports Commission, Gary Holden of the Men’s Tennis Committee, and Dennis Collins and Don Hunsinger of the North Coast Athletic Conference for their help in bringing this wonderful event to Oberlin,” Joe Karlgaard, Oberlin College Delta Lodge Athletic Director, said. “Oberlin’s commitment to athletics, from the Board of Trustees to the student-athletes, will be highlighted at this national event. We are thrilled with the opportunity to showcase our program to the Division III community.”

Oberlin will welcome top teams and premiere individuals from all across the country to its pristine campus that features 12 outdoor courts and four indoor courts.

“We have been working extremely hard with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission to bring these premiere events to the Northeast Ohio area and to our member institutions,” NCAC Executive Director Dennis Collins said. “This will be a great way to put our conference and specifically Oberlin College on display. I am glad that our hard work is paying off as this Championship is just a series of major events that will be coming to our area in 2010.”

The last NCAA Championship event to take place on Oberlin’s campus was a first round field hockey contest in 2005.
