April 8 – Oberlin College student-athletes Jack Dunn and Anna Chernin were recognized as NCAC Athletes of the Week in their respective sports of baseball and track and field, the league office announced on Monday evening.

Dunn, a sophomore from Lake Havasu, Ariz. earns NCAC Pitcher of the Week accolades after guiding the Yeomen past the No. 2 ranked team in country on Sunday as Oberlin defeated Wooster 4-2. This is second time this season he has claimed the award, first earning it on March 24 after pitching the Yeomen past Lawrence 9-2.

The win marks Oberlin’s first victory against the Scots in 22 years as it has not beaten the perennial Division III power since the 1986 season, a stretch that spanned 71 games. Oberlin's triumph also snaps Wooster's 36-game NCAC divisional winning streak, a conference record. The Scots had not lost such a contest since April 1, 2006, when Allegheny edged them 3-2.

Dunn tossed a complete game masterpiece to improve to 4-2 on the year. The southpaw was able to shutdown the Scots powerful offense with a good mixture of breaking balls and changeups to keep them off balance. He threw 117 pitches – 68 for strikes, struck out six and scattered seven hits – allowing just two runs and issuing just two walks. He induced nine groundball-outs and recorded five through the air.

Although Dunn was extremely impressive on Sunday, that was not his only win of the week as he silenced Hiram’s bats on Wednesday to help give Oberlin its first conference win of the season – a 5-3 decision over the Terriers. Dunn worked six innings, striking out five batters and allowing three runs on five hits in the game.

For the week, Dunn went 2-0 with 13 innings pitched. He surrendered just 12 hits and five runs, while striking out 11.

Chernin was named NCAC Women’s Sprints Runner of the Week  as she also shined this past weekend in the Oberlin crimson and gold, establishing a new school record in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.74 to finish in second place at the Marv Frye Invitational on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Chernin, a senior from Ann Arbor, Mich., also ran the opening-leg of the women’s 4-x-400-meter relay team that ended in second place with a mark of 4:06.25.

Her efforts helped the Yeowomen finish in sixth place with 52.75 points at the 12-team event.
