Kristen Hayden Selected as New Head Women's Soccer Coach

May 5, 2007 -- The Oberlin College Department of Athletics and Physical Education is pleased to announce the hiring of Kristen Hayden as the new head women’s soccer coach. Hayden, who served as the Yeowomen's top assistant this past season, will assume her duties as head coach on July 1.

Said Delta Lodge Director of Athletics Joe Karlgaard, "I am absolutely thrilled to have Kristen join our family of head coaches. She brings a very broad set of skills to the soccer program. In addition to her tactical and technical expertise, she is an excellent recruiter and a person of great character. Coach Hayden will represent Oberlin College very well."

Hayden previously spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons as an assistant coach at Kent State University. She helped guide the Golden Flashes to the Mid-American Conference title in her first year and an appearance at the MAC tournament championship in 2005. She has also coached with the Greater Akron Premier Soccer Club in Akron, Ohio. Hayden earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Cleveland State University in 2000 and completed her master’s degree in exercise, leisure and sport from Kent State in 2006.

"I am extremely thankful and excited for the opportunity to lead the Oberlin women's soccer program into the future," Hayden said. "The program has made tremendous strides in the recent past and is beginning to see a change in culture. I am looking forward to continued growth and development with a wonderful group of student athletes at an esteemed college like Oberlin."
