Nearly a century after John Heisman led Oberlin to a perfect 7-0 record in 1892, Oberlin alumni and friends honored Heisman's memory by forming the John William Heisman Club. Founded in 1978, the Club’s objective is to strengthen the entire intercollegiate athletics and physical education program. Without the support of both well-established and young Heisman alumni, the Club could not exist as it does today. The Club’s support is paramount in assisting the Oberlin athletics program in achieving and maintaining excellence in all of its endeavors.
The John W. Heisman Club Gift Plan incorporates both the “Ten Dollars a Year” Program, as well as Gift Levels, ranging from Booster to Legacy:
The “Ten Dollars a Year” Plan, or TDAY, is a concept that involves donating $10 for each year since your graduation from Oberlin College. For example, a 2007 graduate would give $10, while a 1997 graduate would give $100. Each class’s goal is based upon 50% of the number of graduates multiplied by their TDAY. Thus, the class of 2007 includes 54 new Heisman Club members, so that class’s goal would be ($270, or ½ of 54x$10). For the Heisman Club and the Oberlin Annual Fund, every dollar counts towards bettering Oberlin’s athletics teams and increasing the College’s annual giving percentage and national rankings.
